Rio 2016 theme song: ‘Heart and Soul’

“This song sounds like Brazil. It’s about fighting hard and giving your best, with your heart and soul,” singer Thiaguinho says.

The track was produced by Brazilian DJ duo Tropkillaz (André Laudz and Zé Gonzalez) with lyrics by MC Léo da Baixada, Victor Reis and Rodrigo Marques. Rapper Projota and pop singer Thiaguinho, artists from two very different musical genres, are the singers. “We both chose the song,” Projota says. “There are plenty more things that unite us than things that set us apart.”

“It’s a song about overcoming a situation. It’s about lifting your self-esteem, about running, fighting, making things happen.”

Thiaguinho comes from a sports-mad family and once dreamed about being a football player. The singer’s parents are physical education teachers and he has a cousin who will compete in the long jump at Rio 2016: Mauro Vinícius Hilario Lourenço da Silva, also known as Duda.

The 33-year-old singer from São Paulo, who used to be a member of the Exaltasamba group, has recorded with Brazilian music legends such as Gilberto Gil and counts Brazilian football star Neymar among his friends.

As well as the scenes at the Olympic Stadium, the video was shot at other locations across Rio, including the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Leblon beach and in the favela of Vidigal.
